BNP leader Rashed Khan has spoken out on social media regarding the recent controversy surrounding a central leader of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, alleging that a “staged disappearance drama” is being used for political purposes and accompanied by misleading propaganda.
In a post published on his verified Facebook account on Saturday, Rashed Khan claimed that attempts are being made to manipulate public opinion surrounding the case involving Shibir leader Jisan.
In his post, he alleged that the leader in question faced accusations involving deception and inappropriate conduct toward a woman. According to Rashed Khan, the individual’s decision to go into hiding is now being portrayed as an enforced disappearance.
He further claimed that anti-government programs and statements have been organized around the allegation of a disappearance, arguing that such actions may be intended to divert attention from the original allegations.
Rashed Khan also criticized comments made by opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. He argued that labeling someone as abducted or disappeared without proper verification is inconsistent with responsible political conduct.
He emphasized that while enforced disappearance is a serious human rights violation, making false claims or staging such incidents is equally condemnable. He called for appropriate action against anyone found responsible if the allegations are proven true.
At one point, he also criticized the political role of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir, alleging that some groups seek political advantage by portraying themselves as victims.
However, no immediate official response was available from Chhatra Shibir or the individuals concerned regarding the allegations raised by Rashed Khan.
Political analysts suggest that such statements on social media could trigger fresh political controversy, and they stress that determining the truth will require evidence and responses from all relevant parties.
