Protest Announced by Khelafat Majlis Against Inclusion of Music and Dance in Primary Education Curriculum

Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis has announced protest programs across the country, including Dhaka, against the government’s initiative to include music, dance, and drama in the primary education curriculum.

The party announced that it will hold protest rallies in Dhaka on June 18 and nationwide demonstrations on June 19.

The announcement was made on Sunday at a meeting held at the party’s central office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque.

He said that the inclusion of cultural subjects such as music, dance, and drama in primary education is not compatible with the country’s religious and social values. According to him, greater emphasis should be placed on moral education, character building, and religious studies for children.

Maulana Mamunul Haque urged the government to reconsider the initiative and called for expanding religious and ethical education in primary schooling.

The meeting also discussed the country’s overall political and economic situation. He expressed concern over rising commodity prices, unemployment, corruption, money laundering, and irregularities in the banking sector, and emphasized the need for people-oriented political initiatives and national unity to address the crisis.

He also criticized the proposed national budget, saying it lacks clear and effective plans for improving living standards of ordinary people. He warned that a large budget deficit could create additional economic pressure on citizens in the future.

He further opposed government approval of alcohol production and distribution and gambling-related activities, urging strict measures to prevent moral degradation in society.

Several senior party leaders also spoke at the meeting, which was chaired by the party’s Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmad. Leaders urged party activists to prepare for the announced programs.
