Revolutionary Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque has said that the proposed national budget does not adequately reflect the interests of workers and farmers.

Speaking at a rally at Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Sunday marking the party’s 22nd founding anniversary, he made these remarks.

He said that although the budget is presented as inclusive, there is a clear lack of effective initiatives for the productive working population.

He added that while there is discussion about a new salary structure for government employees, there is no visible initiative to set a national minimum wage for workers. He also said the budget lacks clear direction on ensuring fair prices for agricultural products.

Saiful Haque warned that a large budget deficit could ultimately burden ordinary citizens. He added that without effective measures to control inflation, the benefits of economic growth would not reach the general population.

He also criticized the recent trade agreement signed with the United States, claiming that some terms could affect national economic and diplomatic sovereignty. He called for parliamentary review and reassessment of the agreement.

Reviewing the government’s four months in office, he said some progress has been made in economic and social sectors, but expected political changes have not been visible. He emphasized strengthening a democratic and pluralistic state system.

He also commented on recent remarks by India’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, stating that border violence and unwanted incidents must end. He called for resolving unresolved issues on the basis of equality and mutual respect.

Party leaders also addressed the rally, which concluded with tribute to the martyrs of the country’s independence and democratic movements at Central Shaheed Minar, followed by a procession through various roads of the capital.
