Even amid intense training conditions in Miami, the Portugal national team experienced an emotional moment as they honored late forward Diogo Jota, who died in a road accident.
Captain Cristiano Ronaldo and the entire squad were seen wearing special wristbands dedicated to Jota’s memory.
Sources close to the team say Jota was a beloved figure in the dressing room. He scored 14 goals in 49 international appearances and played a key role in Portugal’s Nations League success.
Before the World Cup, the team also held a private farewell and remembrance session. Players received personalized wristbands.
Midfielder Vitinha said the wristband is approved under FIFA rules and can be worn during official matches.
The wristbands include the names of current squad members along with Diogo Jota’s name.
Players reportedly decided to wear them throughout the World Cup as a tribute.
