Concerns have been raised about the quality of the country’s education system by State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, who said that long-term mismanagement and weak policies have prevented education quality from reaching the expected level.
He claimed that the quality of higher secondary education in Bangladesh is questioned internationally and in some cases is compared with primary-level education in Singapore.
He made these remarks while participating in the parliamentary discussion on the supplementary budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year on Sunday.
Bobby Hajjaj said that the impact of two decades of limitations and weak management in the primary and mass education sector is now clearly visible. As a result, many students are unable to acquire the necessary skills for higher education.
He cited university admission failures of a significant number of students as an example.
He said the current government considers improving education quality a national priority. Various reforms have been initiated, including curriculum modernization, teacher skill development, infrastructure improvement, and administrative restructuring.
He added that education is seen as a long-term investment in the current budget, with a significant allocation directed toward primary and mass education development.
According to Bobby Hajjaj, improving education quality is essential for sustainable development and building skilled human resources. The government is working to make the education system modern and internationally competitive.
His remarks have sparked renewed discussion on the current state and future reform plans of the education sector in parliament.
