A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the government’s decision to cancel the license of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital located in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
On Monday (June 15), Advocate Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ in the Supreme Court.
The petition seeks a reconsideration of the decision to cancel the hospital’s license. However, hospital authorities claim they are not directly involved in this legal action.
Earlier, on June 11, the Directorate General of Health Services decided to cancel the hospital’s license and allowed the hospital authorities 30 days to appeal against the decision.
The hospital came under intense discussion after the deaths of six newborns in the post-operative ward on May 27. The newborns were between one and three days old.
Following the incident, a case was filed at Ramna Police Station alleging negligence. The case was filed by Habibur Rahman, father of one of the deceased newborns.
The Ministry of Health formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident.
Authorities later decided to cancel the hospital’s license based on the investigation findings.
Hospital lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir said the writ filed in the High Court is not connected to hospital administration and is a personal initiative of a lawyer.
