Measles Outbreak: Four More Children Die in 24 Hours

The number of child deaths due to measles infection and related complications is increasing.

In the last 24 hours, four more children have died in the capital Dhaka. Among them, measles was confirmed in one child through testing, while the other three died while being treated with measles-like symptoms.

According to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services published on Monday, from Sunday 8:00 AM to Monday 8:00 AM, a total of 1,036 children across the country were infected or showed symptoms of measles. Among them, 64 were confirmed cases, while 972 showed symptoms.

According to DGHS data, since March 15 this year, 563 children have died due to suspected measles complications. During the same period, 93 children died after laboratory confirmation of measles infection. In total, the death toll has reached 656.

During this period, 86,923 children have shown measles-like symptoms nationwide. A large number of them required hospitalization. So far, 71,467 children have been admitted to hospitals, and 67,878 have recovered and returned home.

In the last 24 hours, 888 children were newly admitted to hospitals, while 1,037 children were discharged after recovery.

Public health experts say that timely vaccination and rapid treatment of infected children are essential to control the outbreak. They also emphasize increasing parental awareness.

In the context of rising infections and deaths, the Directorate of Health is closely monitoring the situation and has urged adherence to health guidelines and participation in vaccination programs.
