India's Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly attempted to push 15 individuals into Bangladesh through the Rokonpur border area of Gomastapur Upazila in Chapainawabganj. However, the effort was thwarted by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), forcing the BSF to take the individuals back into Indian territory.
According to BGB officials, the push-in attempt took place early Saturday morning through a river route along the border. Border guards on duty quickly detected the movement and took immediate action to prevent any unauthorized entry.
BGB sources stated that the group included women, men, and children. They were reportedly positioned near the zero line of the international border. After BGB adopted a firm stance and intensified surveillance, BSF personnel were unable to move the individuals into Bangladesh.
Faced with resistance from BGB, the BSF eventually withdrew the group from the border area and returned them to Indian territory. As a result, no one was able to enter Bangladesh.
The 16 BGB Battalion said border monitoring remains active around the clock and that personnel are fully prepared to prevent any illegal infiltration or push-in attempts.
Concerns over alleged push-in incidents have been growing in recent months. A similar incident was reportedly attempted near the Daulatpur border area in Kushtia a day earlier, where BGB also intervened to prevent unauthorized entry.
Border security experts say that issues of this nature require close coordination between the relevant authorities of both countries in accordance with international norms and regulations. Failure to do so could increase tensions in border regions.
BGB reiterated that all unusual activities along the border are being closely monitored and that necessary measures to protect Bangladesh’s sovereignty will continue.
