He made this remark on Thursday (October 30) evening while addressing a roadside rally organized by the NCP at the Bypass area in Laksam Sadar, Cumilla—without directly mentioning the BNP by name.
Hasnat Abdullah said, “Those who signed the July Charter did so in the national interest. Now they are backing away from that agreement and misleading the public. It’s like signing a marriage contract and later refusing to live together. If you sign the contract, you must also fulfill its obligations—the same applies in politics.”
He further stated, “Those who stand against national interest are the same people who will again try to snatch away the people’s right to vote. Opposing reforms means taking a stance against the nation’s progress. The people must identify such individuals.”
Issuing a warning, the NCP leader added, “The ones practicing the politics of ‘no’ today are the same who once opposed the caretaker government system. Their goal is not public welfare but self-interest.”
Special guests at the rally included NCP’s Central Joint Chief Coordinator and Cumilla Regional Supervisor Navid Nawroz Shah. The event was presided over by Laksam Upazila Chief Coordinator Al Mahmud (Fazle Rabbi).
Other speakers included Javed Mia, grandfather of Laksam’s July Movement martyr Zisan; NCP Central Organizer Salauddin Jaber; and Upazila Coordinator Ariful Islam. The event was conducted by Mostafizur Rahman and Md. Ashikul Islam.
After the rally, NCP leaders distributed leaflets in Laksam Sadar to raise public awareness. The program began with Hasnat Abdullah inaugurating the NCP’s Laksam Upazila office by cutting a ribbon.
Local political analysts noted that the difference in stance between the BNP and the NCP regarding the implementation of the Consensus Commission’s reforms has now become evident in the political landscape of southern Bangladesh.
