Muradnagaon Woman Stripped and Tortured: Shah Poran Granted 5-Day Remand

A court has granted a five-day remand for Shah Poran, who was arrested as the "mastermind" behind spreading a video of a woman being stripped and tortured in Muradnagaon, Cumilla. Shah Poran is the younger brother of Fajor Ali, who was arrested on charges of raping the same woman.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Mominul Haque of Cumilla's 11th Amoli Court granted the remand today, Wednesday, around 11:45 AM after a hearing. Shah Poran was present in court during the remand hearing. Sadikur Rahman, Inspector of Cumilla Court Police, confirmed this information.

Inspector Sadikur Rahman stated that on Sunday, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin of Muradnagaon Police Station, applied for a 10-day remand for Shah Poran for questioning. Today, Wednesday, was set as the hearing date, and after the hearing, the court granted a five-day remand for Shah Poran. The accused was later sent to Cumilla Central Jail. The investigating officer will subsequently take custody of the accused from the jail for questioning.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shah Poran last Thursday afternoon from the Burichang Upazila area of the district. Following this, RAB detailed the incident at a press conference at the RAB Media Center in Dhaka on Friday at 11 AM. He was handed over to Muradnagaon police on Friday evening. He was then arrested in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act at Muradnagaon Police Station and sent to court on Saturday. Police have not been able to arrest anyone new in this case.

It's worth noting that on the night of June 26, in a village in Ramchandrapur Dakshin Union, Fajor Ali, who had gone to inquire about money given out on interest, found an empty house. He first broke down the tin door of the victim's father's house and then brutally assaulted the woman. Sensing the situation, a few local youths beat Fajor Ali and also assaulted the victim while she was unclothed. Subsequently, that video was circulated on social media. Following this incident, the victim filed two cases at the police station: one on June 27 for rape and another on June 29 for stripping and torturing her and then spreading the video on social media. So far, five people, including Shah Poran, are in jail in connection with the case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act. Fajor Ali's hands and feet were broken during the incident due to beating by locals, and he is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital under police guard.
