A woman and her five-year-old child were killed when a bus ran them over on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chandina, Comilla. The incident, which occurred Saturday morning, cast a shadow of grief over the area. Their identities are not yet known.

The accident took place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the Murdannagar road junction near the border of Daukandi and Chandina Upazilas, on the Dhaka-bound lane. According to police and local eyewitnesses, the woman was getting off a local bus with her child in her arms when another fast-moving bus hit them from behind. The bus then lost control and collided with a nearby mini-covered van, severely damaging its rear.

The woman died instantly at the scene. The seriously injured child was first taken to a local hospital, then transferred to Gauripur Health Complex in Daukandi, where doctors declared the child dead.

OC Ruhul Amin of Elliotganj Highway Police Station said both buses involved and the damaged van have been impounded, and legal action is being taken. Identification of the deceased is ongoing.
