The Bengali alternative music band Meghdol has reached an important milestone, completing 23 years on January 22. The band announced a special solo concert and the release of three new songs, completing their third studio album “Aluminium-er Dana.”
The three new songs are titled “Carnival,” “Bagh,” and “Tare Kothay Khuje Pai.” Video production for the songs is currently underway, according to the band’s vocalist and lyricist Shibu Kumar Shil.
Shil said the release of these songs is not directly to mark the 23rd anniversary, though it coincides with the occasion. The three songs will complete the album “Aluminium-er Dana.” Shil composed the lyrics, music, and vocals for “Carnival,” while “Bagh” and “Tare Kothay Khuje Pai” were written, composed, and sung by another member, Mezbauer Rahman Sumon. “Bagh” will be released first, followed by the other two songs.
Regarding the 23rd-anniversary celebration, Shil mentioned that although a large-scale event is not planned, a special solo concert is expected after Eid. Additionally, preparations for a live album marking the band’s 25th anniversary next year have begun.
Meghdol’s album “Aluminium-er Dana” first gained attention in 2022 with the release of the song “E Hawa,” which was widely appreciated and later featured in the film “Hawa.” In August 2023, the album’s title track was released, and in March of the same year, Meghdol performed the popular song “Bonbibi” in Coke Studio Bangla Season 2.
For over two decades, Meghdol has maintained a distinct identity in alternative music. With the new songs and concert, the band is actively reconnecting with its audience.
