Late-Night Attack by Miscreants in Joypurhat: Woman Killed, Teenage Niece Seriously Injured

In Chirla village of Chak Barkat Union, Sadar Upazila, Joypurhat, a woman named Nurunnahar Begum (47) was killed in an attack by miscreants. Her teenage niece, Khatija Khatun (16), was seriously injured in the same incident. This gruesome incident occurred late Tuesday night (December 2) at the home of Gofur Mondol.

Family members said they suspected something was wrong around 3 a.m. after hearing unusual sounds from inside the house. Abdul Matin, the elder brother of Nurunnahar, said that after receiving a call from his younger brother’s wife, he rushed to the house and found his sister and niece lying inside in a bloodied condition. They appeared to have been struck on the head with a heavy object, possibly the handle of a hand pump.

The injured were first taken to Joypurhat 250-Bed Hospital. After initial treatment, they were being transferred to Bogura’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for advanced care, during which Nurunnahar Begum passed away. The teenage niece, Khatija, is still undergoing treatment at SJMC.

The incident has created fear in the local area. The cause of the attack and the identities of those involved are still unclear.

Nazmul Hossain, OC of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, said that the deceased’s body has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. The incident is being investigated seriously, and legal measures are being taken to identify the culprits.
