Jibonnagar BNP municipal general secretary Dably dies after army operation

The army stated that weapons were recovered from Dably during the operation, but no further official statement has been issued.

Local BNP and allied leaders claimed that Dably was arrested by army personnel from his business establishment, ‘Hafiza Pharmacy,’ in front of Jibonnagar Upazila Health Complex at around 10 PM on Monday night. The news of his death spread by 12:30 AM.

Following the incident, a large number of BNP and allied members gathered outside the Upazila Health Complex, alleging that Dably had been tortured after his arrest.

Shariful Islam Kajol, Dably’s brother and Upazila forest officer, said, “My brother was deliberately killed.”

Meanwhile, Remon, member secretary of the Upazila Chhatra Dal, alleged that Dably and four of his brothers were tortured and severely beaten on the night of last Saturday.

No formal comment has been made by the army regarding these allegations, although they confirmed the recovery of weapons.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, president of BGMBA, Chuadanga district BNP president, and BNP-nominated candidate for Chuadanga-2, arrived at the Upazila Health Complex. He appealed to the assembled leaders and activists to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

He also stated that Dably’s family would take legal action as plaintiffs. As of 9 AM Tuesday, Dably’s body remained inside the Upazila Health Complex under army guard. Meanwhile, since the previous night, angry locals have been protesting on the streets outside the hospital by burning tires, creating tension in the area.
