The Gazipur Metropolitan branch of Jamaat-e-Islami organized a massive rally in Tongi demanding legal recognition of the July Charter and elections under the Proportional Representation (PR) system, along with five key demands.

The rally, which began at 10:30 am on Friday from the Shalikchura area of Tongi, proceeded along the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway and concluded at the Station Road bus stand.

The rally was led by Dr. Hafizur Rahman, the Jamaat-nominated candidate for Gazipur-6. Also present were central working committee member Manjurul Islam Bhuiya, metropolitan Amir Professor Jamal Uddin, Naib Amir Khairul Hasan, Md. Hossain Ali, Salahuddin Ayubi, metropolitan secretary A.S.M. Faruk, Afzal Hossain, and other party leaders and activists at various levels.

Speakers at the rally emphasized that without implementing the political reforms outlined in the July Charter and ensuring participatory elections, permanent political stability cannot be restored in the country. They asserted, “Elections under the PR system are the only way to reflect the true opinion of the people.”

On the day, Jamaat-e-Islami officially announced Dr. Hafizur Rahman as its candidate for Gazipur-6. Following this announcement, the rally was also seen as a show of strength for the party’s candidate.
