Islami Chhatra Shibir-Supported Panel Wins JAKSU Election

In Jagannath University, the Islami Chhatra Shibir-supported ‘Adamya Jobian Oikko’ panel won a significant victory in the Central Student Parliament (JAKSU) and Hall Parliament elections. In the university’s first-ever election, candidates from this panel won 16 of the 21 central parliament seats.

The opposing panel, ‘Oikkoboddho Nirbhik Jobian,’ consisting of Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Adhikar Parishad, and general students, won four seats.

The Chief Election Commissioner of JAKSU, Professor Mostofa Hasan, officially announced the results at 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the results, Riazul Islam won the Vice President (VP) position with 5,558 votes. His nearest rival, A.K.M. Rakib, received 4,688 votes. Abdul Alim Arif won the General Secretary (GS) position with 5,475 votes, and Masud Rana won the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) position with 5,020 votes.

Other winners include Md. Nurnobi (Liberation and Democracy Secretary), Ibrahim Khalil (Education and Research Secretary), Mosha. Sukhi Mon Khatun (Science and Technology Secretary), Nur Mohammad (Health and Environment Secretary), Habib Mohammad Faruk (Law and Human Rights Secretary), Naoshin Nawar (International Affairs Secretary), Jorjis Anwar Naim (Sports Secretary), and Mostafizur Rahman (Social Welfare and Student Welfare Secretary).

Meanwhile, from the ‘Oikkoboddho Nirbhik Jobian’ panel, Takrim Mia (Literature and Culture Secretary), Mahid Hossain (Transport Secretary), and Md. Riasal Rakib (Library and Seminar Secretary) won. Among seven executive member seats, five were won by the Shibir-supported panel. Fatema Akter Aowrin received the highest votes in these positions. The remaining two were won by a Chhatra Dal-supported candidate and an independent candidate.

Voting took place from morning to afternoon on Tuesday. Although vote counting began using the OMR system, technical issues caused multiple suspensions. After manual and machine verification, the final results were announced early Thursday morning.

This first JAKSU election in 21 years is considered a significant event in campus politics by observers.
