Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has emphasized the importance of humanitarian values and discipline for the country’s sustainable development. He said, “Not just technology or infrastructural progress—a morally strong, disciplined, and compassionate society is essential to build a truly developed nation.”

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 3rd International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Applied Science organized by the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) on Saturday at the Mirpur Cantonment.

The Army Chief stated, “Technological excellence and research-based knowledge are vital for national progress. However, without human virtues, real development is not possible.” He added, “A society governed by discipline can move faster toward advancement.”

During the event, he awarded five individuals for outstanding contributions in five different categories.

The three-day international conference covered topics including artificial intelligence (AI), renewable energy, advanced manufacturing processes, thermal engineering, and space research, among other modern engineering technologies.

Renowned researchers, engineers, and professionals from countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, China, and Japan participated in the conference. Representatives from various universities and research institutions in Bangladesh also attended.

Organizers stated that the conference served not only as a platform for technological exchange but also as a means to strengthen future research and innovation. In his speech, the Army Chief urged that technology be used for the welfare of humanity.

Concluding the conference, he said, “Only when we align technology with humanity will it become a true tool for progress.”
