An alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push three people, including two women, into Bangladesh through the West Ramkrishnapur border area of Joypurhat Sadar upazila was foiled due to the quick response of local residents and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The three individuals are currently staying at the zero line between the two countries.
The incident took place early Saturday morning at Sub-Pillar No. 275/8-S of the West Ramkrishnapur border area.
According to local sources, the three individuals were allegedly being pushed toward Bangladesh after the border light posts were switched off. Residents guarding the area noticed the incident and immediately rushed to the spot before informing BGB officials.
Upon receiving the information, BGB personnel quickly arrived and brought the situation under control. They placed the three individuals under their security protection and kept them at the zero line, preventing the alleged push-in attempt from succeeding.
BGB sources said one of the individuals has been identified as Hafizur Rahman, 65. Preliminary information suggests that he is a resident of Narail district. The identities of the two women accompanying him could not immediately be confirmed.
Dhola Har Union Parishad member Shafiqul Islam said local residents quickly gathered at the border area, helping to bring the situation under control. Later, BGB personnel arrived and took necessary measures.
According to the latest information, BGB and BSF personnel are positioned at the zero line. Communication between the two border forces is continuing to resolve the matter and decide the future of the three individuals. Preparations are also underway for a flag meeting between the two forces.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Latiful Bari, commander of Joypurhat 20 BGB Battalion, said BSF had attempted to send the three individuals into Bangladesh, but BGB prevented it. He added that the border situation remains calm.
Following the incident, security has been strengthened in the border area. BGB is closely monitoring the entire situation.
