To determine the actual cause of death of those killed in the recent clash in Gopalganj, the bodies may be exhumed for autopsy, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
He shared this information while speaking to journalists on Saturday afternoon after inspecting the terminal area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He stated, “The families of those killed in the Gopalganj clash took the bodies without post-mortem examinations, which made it impossible to determine the cause of death. If necessary, the bodies will be exhumed for autopsy.”
When asked about who is responsible for the incident, the Home Adviser said, “A probe committee has been formed regarding this incident. The committee will examine everything thoroughly—who was involved, who is to be held accountable. Once the report is published, the public will know everything.”
On the same day, he visited the third terminal of Shahjalal International Airport and inquired about staffing needs and the current state of the immigration department. However, he said he does not know the exact date of the terminal's official inauguration.
Thanking journalists for reporting on the Gopalganj incident, Md. Jahangir Alam added, “I express gratitude to those who gathered information directly from the scene. But to those who were not present, I urge you to refrain from spreading misinformation or unverified details that may cause confusion.”
The adviser’s remarks make it clear that the government is determined to investigate every aspect of the Gopalganj incident objectively and uncover the truth. Final decisions will likely be made once the investigation report is released.
