Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Abdelwahab Saidani, visited the traditional floating boat market and the Charchina Darbar Sharif in Nesharabad Upazila of Pirojpur on Friday. During the visit, he observed the boat-making techniques and market potential of the area and expressed Algeria’s interest in future investment in this sector.
In the afternoon, the ambassador toured the famous floating market in Atghar Kuriana area. Riding a trawler, he visited different sections of the market and inquired in detail about the quality, structure, and production process of the locally made boats. He praised the craftsmanship and creativity of the local boat builders.
Ambassador Saidani said, “The tradition and technical skills of boat-making in this region are full of potential. We are interested in importing these boats and are considering investment in this sector in the future.”
During the visit, he also went to the Charchina Darbar Sharif and performed the Friday (Jummah) prayers there. He was accompanied by Nesharabad's Assistant Commissioner (Land) Raihan Mahamud, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sabiha Mehebuba, and Officer-in-Charge Boni Amin.
While interacting with local administration and the public, the ambassador expressed hope for further strengthening the friendly relationship between the two countries. He stated, “There are many opportunities for cultural, trade, and people-to-people connections between Bangladesh and Algeria. Visits like this will deepen the ties between our nations.”
The ambassador's visit generated positive reactions locally. Many see the foreign interest centered on the floating boat market as a new gateway of opportunities. Stakeholders believe that such attention will play a significant role in introducing the local boat industry to the international market.
