Government Invites Investment to Revive 44 State-Owned Industrial Units

The government has invited domestic and foreign investors to revive 44 long-closed or loss-making state-owned industrial enterprises.

Multiple investment models are being considered, including Public-Private Partnership (PPP), joint ventures, long-term leasing, and even direct sales where necessary.

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has published detailed information on these industries, including asset details, infrastructure capacity, and investment potential.

Officials said most industrial units already have essential infrastructure, meaning investors will not need to acquire land or build basic facilities from scratch, reducing both cost and time.

The published list includes enterprises under the Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC), Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC), Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC), and Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC), covering a total of 44 industrial units.

BIDA highlighted opportunities such as unused land at Pranati Industries Limited in Sitakunda for automobile manufacturing, EV assembly lines, and modern body and paint shops.

Similarly, significant unused land at Atlas Bangladesh Limited in Tongi presents opportunities in the fast-growing electric two-wheeler market.

A modern environmentally friendly steel mill in Bogura has also been proposed due to strong domestic demand and import dependence.

Officials said more than 10,000 acres of strategic industrial land are available under these enterprises, opening opportunities for modernization, redevelopment, and strategic partnerships.

Experts believe that successful investment could revive these dormant industries, create jobs, increase production, and positively impact the national economy.
