The government has restructured the cabinet committee responsible for public procurement to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and accountability in government purchasing.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has been appointed as the chairman of the newly reconstituted committee.
A notification regarding this was issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday (July 5).
According to the notification, the committee will determine the operational procedures of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement. It will also recommend measures to make public procurement more effective, transparent, and timely.
Additionally, the committee will review matters under the Public Procurement Act, 2006 and Public Procurement Rules, 2025. Identifying reforms and development areas in procurement procedures is also part of its responsibilities.
It will also implement any additional responsibilities assigned by the cabinet committees in the future.
Other members include ministers and senior officials from the energy, industry, public administration, shipping, local government, cabinet division, finance division, and the Public Procurement Authority.
Officials believe this restructuring will improve coordination, accelerate decision-making, and enhance efficiency in government procurement processes.
