England has secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating host nation Mexico, ending their hopes of a home victory.
In a thrilling Round of 16 match at Azteca Stadium, England won 3–2 to book their place in the last eight.
Due to weather conditions, the match started nearly an hour late, but England immediately began attacking football from the opening whistle. They dominated possession and continuously pressured the Mexican defense.
The hero of the first half was Jude Bellingham. The English midfielder scored twice before halftime, giving England a 2–0 lead. His control in midfield, quick attacking transitions, and clinical finishing gave England a strong foundation.
Mexico tried to fight back after the break and scored early in the second half, bringing excitement back into the match. However, England quickly responded with a third goal through a counterattack.
Late in the match, Mexico scored again to reduce the margin but failed to find an equalizer. The final whistle confirmed England’s 3–2 victory.
With this win, Gareth Southgate’s team advanced to the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of Brazil vs Norway.
Despite strong home support, Mexico’s World Cup journey ended. England’s organized defense and attacking efficiency proved decisive.
