The exit of Brazil from the FIFA World Cup at the Round of 16 stage has come as a major shock for millions of fans. However, head coach Carlo Ancelotti does not see this disappointing result as the final chapter. He believes this setback could become the foundation for building a stronger Brazil team in the future.

In a match held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Monday, Brazil lost 2–1 to Norway, eliminating the five-time world champions from the tournament. Erling Haaland scored twice to give Norway the lead, while Neymar scored a penalty in extra time, but Brazil could not avoid defeat.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ancelotti said the result is certainly disappointing, but the team’s overall performance in the tournament cannot be called a failure. According to him, Brazil played good football in several matches and created enough chances even against Norway.

A major disappointment for Brazil was Bruno Guimarães missing a penalty in the first half. After that missed opportunity, Haaland changed the course of the match with his brace, securing a historic win for Norway.

Statistics showed a closely contested match. Norway had slightly more possession, but Brazil was not far behind in creating attacks, shots, and goal-scoring chances. Ultimately, failure to convert opportunities proved decisive in Brazil’s elimination.

For the first time since 1990, Brazil failed to reach the World Cup quarter-finals. Previously, they had reached at least the last eight in eight consecutive World Cups.

Despite the setback, Ancelotti remains optimistic. Contracted with the Brazilian Football Confederation until the 2030 World Cup, he said a single defeat cannot define an entire project. He believes the current squad has enough potential to succeed in the long term.

He added that continuous improvement, hard work, and new planning are essential to strengthen the national team. In football, wins and losses are normal, but learning from defeat is what drives progress.

Brazil’s wait for a World Cup title has now been extended further. Their last triumph was in 2002, and the wait will now stretch to 28 years. At the same time, their long-standing struggle against European teams in knockout matches continues.

Ancelotti insists this is not an end but the beginning of a new journey, believing the current squad will mature into a more competitive team in the future.
