Housewife Gang-Raped in Kushtia’s Bheramara: Five Arrested

A housewife was allegedly gang-raped in Kushtia’s Bheramara upazila after her husband was tied up and assaulted. Police launched an immediate operation and arrested five suspects in connection with the incident. The crime took place on Saturday night (August 2) at the Lichubagan area near the Baromail area along the Kushtia-Ishwardi National Highway.

The victim's husband, Sohel (a resident of Naogaon district), lives with his wife in a rented house in the Kutirbazar area. He works at a local decoration shop, while his wife is employed as a cook at a hotel in Baromail.

On Saturday night, the couple was returning home from the hotel after work. They boarded a van operated by a local driver named Rubel. Around 11 p.m., when they reached Lichubagan, a group of 6–7 men intercepted them. The attackers beat Sohel, tied him to a tree, and brutally assaulted his wife.

Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rob Talukder said, “Immediately after the incident, a joint team of police and the district Detective Branch conducted a raid and arrested five suspects. During interrogation, they confessed to the crime.”

The arrested individuals are:

• Kalu Pramanik (46), from Moslempur
  
  

• Murshid Sheikh (45), from Sholdag
  
  

• Tipu alias Titu (42), from Baromail
  
  

• Ejazul (42), from the same area
  
  

• Rubel Ali (24), a local van driver from Lichubagan
  
  

The victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing necessary examinations. Police stated that both the woman and her family are severely traumatized.

OC Talukder added, “This is a heinous crime. We are treating the investigation with utmost importance and are preparing to file the charge sheet quickly. If any other individuals are found to be involved, they will also be brought to justice.”

The incident has caused a stir in the local community, with residents expressing outrage and demanding swift justice.
