Fisherman Missing After Fishing Trawler Sinks in Meghna River

A fishing trawler sank in the Meghna River near Char Hogla Balurghat, located close to Char Kishoreganj in Munshiganj and under Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj, leaving one fisherman missing. The trawler, carrying six fishermen, capsized on Monday morning (29 September) after colliding with a sand-carrying bulkhead.

According to police and local sources, five fishermen aboard the trawler managed to swim to the shore. The missing fisherman has been identified as Mohammad Sharif (32), son of Mohammad Hossain from South Islampur, the city.

The Munshiganj Fire Service diving team is conducting a rescue operation. Deputy Assistant Director Mohammad Safiqul Islam said the depth of the river and strong currents are posing challenges to the rescue efforts.

Narayanganj river police are trying to identify the bulkhead that caused the collision and are taking legal action.
