Another earthquake was felt in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram Hill Tracts, and Chattogram city on Monday night (December 1) at 12:57 AM. The tremor lasted a few seconds, causing many to rush outside. No damage has been reported so far.

Locals stated that although the quake was not very strong, its occurrence at midnight startled people awake. The tremor was felt simultaneously in Ukhiya, Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar city, and surrounding hilly areas.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude of 4.9, originating from Nachuang in Myanmar’s Sagaing region. The US Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the same.

Frequent earthquakes over recent days have raised concern among the public. After the 5.2 magnitude quake in Narsingdi on November 21, Bangladesh has experienced minor tremors almost regularly. Experts caution that repeated tremors could indicate underground stress accumulation, though there is no confirmed major threat. They advise regular structural inspections and increased public awareness. Local authorities are monitoring the situation and will provide assistance if needed.
