Dr. ATM Rezaul Karim, the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Chattogram-7 (Rangunia), has said that free and fair elections are impossible if illegal gun carriers are not arrested.
He made the remarks on Friday (16 January) night during an exchange of views with local journalists at the Rangunia Press Club auditorium in Ichkhali, Rangunia Upazila.
Dr. Karim stated that as a native of Rangunia, he is deeply connected to the joys and sorrows of the people of the area. His goal is to build a just, corruption-free, and welfare-oriented society by utilizing Rangunia’s natural resources and potential.
He presented a 20-point plan for the overall development and welfare of Rangunia. The plan includes upgrading the Chattogram–Kaptai road to four lanes, widening the DC road from Moriamangar to Ranirhat, improving education and healthcare, conserving Gumae Beel, intensifying anti-drug operations, preventing pollution of the Karnaphuli River, and establishing technical training centers for expatriates.
During the session, he respectfully commemorated those who died in the July–August mass movements, noting that their sacrifices helped end fascist rule in the country. He emphasized that he aims to establish citizens’ rights inspired by these martyrs’ ideals.
Present at the meeting were Maulana Shawkat Hossain, Naib Amir of Rangunia Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami branch, leader Rashedul Islam Talukder, and Sarwar Hossain, President of Rangunia Youth Forum, along with other local party leaders.
