Dhaka University has decided to reopen its residential halls from December 28. Classes will also resume on the same day.

The decision was made at a meeting of the University Deans’ Committee on Wednesday (December 3), chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmed Khan.

Considering expert recommendations and the overall situation, the committee decided to maintain the previously announced winter vacation while also including December 23 and 24 as holidays. No internal examinations will be held during this vacation period. However, ongoing online classes will continue until December 13 to address learning gaps.

The Deans’ Committee decided that exams will resume in the first week of January 2026. Departments will reschedule their exams in coordination with the relevant faculty deans and the examination controller’s office.

During the meeting, technical inspections and evaluations of various residential halls post-earthquake were reviewed along with recommendations from BUET experts and the University of Dhaka’s engineering department. The committee emphasized ensuring the safety and convenience of students in the halls.
