In Aricha Ghat, Shibalaya Upazila, Manikganj, Deputy Secretary Abdullah Al Mahmud Faruk, a government official, suddenly fell ill and passed away. He was working in the Information Management Subdivision and was also serving as the Project Director of the SCEM project.
The incident occurred on Friday (16 January) around 4:30 pm. The deceased Faruk was a resident of Diar Bamundi village under Aminpur Police Station, Pabna District. His father was the late Wadud Mia.
According to local sources and eyewitnesses, Faruk arrived at Aricha Ghat by a Shyamoli transport bus from Dhaka. He was sitting on a bench under the passenger shelter, waiting to cross to Kazirhat by speedboat. At that moment, he suddenly felt physically unwell and soon collapsed on the ground unconscious.
Upon noticing the incident, Ataur Rahman, an employee at the speedboat counter, immediately transported him to Shibalaya Upazila Health Complex by auto-rickshaw. The on-duty doctors conducted an initial examination, informed that his condition was serious, and advised immediate transfer to Manikganj Sadar Hospital or Munna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
He was subsequently taken by ambulance to Munna Medical College Hospital, where the doctors at the emergency department examined him and declared him dead. A hospital doctor mentioned that the patient’s condition was extremely critical even before reaching the hospital. Preliminary reports suggest he died of a heart attack.
Shibalaya Upazila Executive Officer Monisha Rani Karmakar confirmed his death. Upon hearing the news, his nephew Ferdous and other family members rushed to the hospital. Following the family’s decision, the body was taken to his native village by speedboat.
