 PNN News Desk | Rajshahi:

Ahead of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU) election, various panels have announced their manifestos. However, university analysts say that most of these manifestos are beyond RAKSU’s constitution and practically impossible to implement.

On October 16, ten panels will compete for the RAKSU, Hall Council, and Senate student representative elections. Panels including Islami Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Dal, and the Democratic Students’ Council have already unveiled their manifestos. Yet, most promises are impossible to execute without approval from the university administration or the Vice-Chancellor.

The Shibir-backed panel promised library expansion, installation of CCTV cameras on campus, implementation of e-cars, and construction of separate mosques for women. The Chhatra Dal-backed panel pledged to prepare an academic calendar, build new halls, and modernize the medical center.

University faculty and students consider these manifestos unrealistic. Professor Syed Muhammad Ali Reza of the Management Studies Department said, “RAKSU’s funds and authority are limited. Many promises in the manifestos are impossible to fulfill. These are primarily strategies to attract voters.”

The election has also seen mutual allegations. Chhatra Dal and Shibir have accused each other of financial transactions, distributing food, and giving special gifts. Students feel that the manifestos are mainly efforts by candidates to increase their electoral influence.
