Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Brazil is planning major decisions regarding its national team’s future. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has offered current coach Carlo Ancelotti a new contract to continue until the 2030 World Cup.

According to South American media, the 66-year-old Italian coach has verbally agreed to the proposal. Once formalized, he will remain Brazil’s head coach through the 2030 centenary World Cup, regardless of the 2026 World Cup results.

Before taking over last summer, Ancelotti had a successful European club career, notably with Real Madrid CF. He was the first foreign coach in six decades of Brazil’s national team history, appointed under special conditions. The new contract maintains his personal benefits, with bonuses increased based on performance while annual salary remains unchanged.

After disappointing results in the CONMEBOL qualifiers, Dorival Junior lost the position, leading to Ancelotti’s appointment. Under him, Brazil won four, drew two, and lost two in his first eight matches. Though statistics were not outstanding, the team’s environment improved positively. Strong relationships with former club protégés, including Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, helped stabilize the squad internally. Player confidence and support were gained as well.

CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues believes Ancelotti can contribute not only tactically but also in shaping team culture. Breaking away from the tradition of replacing coaches after World Cup failures, Brazil aims for long-term stability. Preparation matches ahead of the World Cup will be critical. Brazil, seeking its sixth trophy since 2002, is ramping up preparations for 2026 while already outlining strategies for the 2030 World Cup.
