The country’s cricket administration remains unstable. Even after new leadership took over, stability has not returned to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). On the contrary, multiple recent issues have increased pressure, with the biggest crisis arising around Dhaka club cricket.
Conflicts with club organizers have brought uncertainty to the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, one of the country’s major domestic tournaments. There are now concerns about whether the league will proceed as scheduled.
In this context, an important meeting of BCB’s board of directors will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The board directors will attend under the leadership of President Aminul Islam Bulbul, and those unable to attend in person may join online.
The main discussion points include the current situation of Dhaka club cricket. Recently, the cricketers’ organization COA-B sent a letter to BCB, presenting various demands and proposals. The meeting is expected to extensively discuss implementing these proposals and resolving ongoing crises. Decisions regarding the organization of the Dhaka League may also be made.
Additionally, preparations, management, and planning for the upcoming New Zealand series will be important topics. Internal matters within BCB are also central to discussions. BCB’s media committee head Amjad Hossain recently resigned, although it has not yet been formally accepted. A final decision regarding this may be taken in Saturday’s meeting, potentially affecting the board’s structure.
Questions have also been raised about BCB’s latest election. The National Sports Council has already formed a five-member committee to investigate the matter. Some board directors have provided statements to the committee, although it is not confirmed if this issue will be discussed in the meeting.
Overall, BCB faces multiple complex issues. Saturday’s meeting is considered a crucial step toward resolving the crisis.
