With just one week left before the FIFA World Cup 2026 begins, the football world is in excitement. The tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, featuring a record 48 participating countries and 104 matches. Amid this global football frenzy, Bangladesh has received proud news.
Farzin Goni has been selected as the only Bangladeshi volunteer for the FIFA World Cup 2026. She reportedly departed for Toronto, Canada, on June 2 to carry out her duties. There, she will assist in pre-match ceremonies, including carrying national flags and supporting match-related official activities.
Farzin’s achievement was shared by her mother, Rozana Nasim, on social media, expressing joy. She stated that among approximately 3 million applicants worldwide, only around 3,000 volunteers were selected, and her daughter was one of them.
She added that Farzin will serve as a “ceremonies volunteer,” assisting players and participating in flag-bearing duties for different countries. She also requested prayers and good wishes from the nation for her daughter’s successful completion of this international responsibility.
FIFA stated that around 65,000 volunteers are working in various roles, including stadium operations, audience assistance, ticket management, and media support.
The organizers will provide training and necessary facilities to the volunteers. From June 11 to July 19, volunteers will not only serve but also gain real-life experience interacting with top global football stars.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that volunteers are the backbone of the tournament, without whom such a large-scale event cannot be successfully organized.
Many in Bangladesh see this participation as an inspiring achievement for the country’s sports sector and youth.
