A Florida court on Wednesday approved Tiger Woods’ request to leave the US for treatment at a comprehensive inpatient medical center. Woods is currently facing a Missed Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge.

Martin County Court Judge Darren Steel approved the petition filed by Woods’ attorney Douglas Duncan. Duncan stated that the 50-year-old golf star requires “intensive, personalized, and medically integrated” treatment that should be conducted away from public scrutiny.

The petition explained that Woods’ doctor recommended treatment abroad due to the impossibility of maintaining privacy at home, as ongoing public monitoring and media coverage were affecting his care.

Woods surrendered to the court after a car accident in Jupiter Island, Florida. He told police he was using a mobile phone and changing the radio channel during the incident. Breathalyzer tests showed no alcohol, but he refused a urinalysis test. Police found two hydrocodone medications in his left pants pocket.

Woods has received full support from the PGA and other golf organizations. PGA of America stated, “Tiger Woods is taking steps to focus on his health and well-being. We support him for long-term recovery and commend his courage.”

Woods has also stepped down as the US captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup. Augusta National Chairman Frank Ridley and the PGA Tour have expressed support, stating that Woods’ first priority must now be his health.

He said, “I am stepping away from golf for some time, focusing on treatment and my well-being. This is essential for long-term recovery.”
