Arrest warrants issued against Obaidul Quader and six others for crimes against humanity

In a case filed regarding crimes against humanity during the July uprising, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) has accepted the formal charges against seven individuals, including Awami League (banned) General Secretary Obaidul Quader and Joint General Secretary A F M Bahauddin Nasim. Arrest warrants have also been issued against each of them.

On Thursday, the tribunal, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, accepted the charges. The other two members of the tribunal, Justice Md. Manjurul Basid and Justice Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir, were also present.

All the accused are currently absconding. After accepting the charges, arrest warrants were issued and law enforcement agencies were instructed to execute them.

The other accused include former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan (Nikhil), Chhatra League Central President Saddam Hossain, and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.

The next hearing to review whether the arrest warrants have been executed is scheduled for December 29.
