39 candidates collect nomination papers in three days across 15 Dhaka constituencies

Ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election, interest in candidacy is rising in 15 Dhaka constituencies. In the past three days, a total of 39 potential candidates have collected nomination papers.

16 collected from the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s office, and 23 from Assistant Returning Officers. The Returning Officers for 13 Dhaka constituencies are based at the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Segunbagicha, with 28 collection offices across the city. Dhaka-4 and Dhaka-18 have regional officers as Returning Officers.

Nomination paper sales began on December 15. On the third day, 22 candidates collected papers. On December 16, a public holiday for Victory Day, sales did not occur.

BNP leaders collected nomination papers as follows: Tanvir Ahmed (Dhaka-4), Ishrak Hossain (Dhaka-6), Habibur Rashid (Dhaka-9), Sanjida Islam (Dhaka-14), Aminul Haque (Dhaka-16), and Mir Newaz Ali Newaz (Dhaka-7). Jamaat-e-Islami’s S M Khaliduzzan from Dhaka-17, four leaders of Islami Andolan Bangladesh from four constituencies, six independent candidates, three from Khelafat Majlis, and one each from Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesh Cultural Mukti Jote also collected papers.

According to the EC schedule, the 13th parliamentary election voting will be held on February 12 next year. The last date for nomination submission is December 29, and withdrawal deadline is January 20.
