10 Injured, 5 Police Hurt in Clash Between Two BNP Factions in Patuakhali

At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of BNP in Palpara Bazar, Lohalia Union, Sadar Upazila, Patuakhali on Wednesday night over the lease of the local market. Five police officers were also injured in the incident. A seriously injured youth was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Local sources and police reports indicate that the clash stemmed from a long-standing dispute over the market lease. During a scuffle between supporters of Mofuzul and Sohag Maji, Sohag Maji’s followers attacked Mofuzul with a machete, seriously injuring him.

When the police arrived at the scene, the attackers also turned violent against them. ASI Zahir, SI Abdur Rahman, and constables Mohibullah, Rana, and Saiful Islam were injured. The injured police officers were admitted to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital.

A joint operation by police, army, and RAB led to the arrest of three individuals. Patuakhali Sadar Police Station OC Imtiaz Ahmed stated that the situation is now under control.
