 Staff Reporter | PNN:

A political crisis has arisen due to differing positions among BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) regarding the implementation process of the July National Charter. Addressing the final phase of discussions at the National Consensus Commission, AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju said on Wednesday, “The ego issues of the three parties that the government considers as its allies and took along on the New York visit are now obstructing national unity.”

Mojibur Rahman added that the people of the country desire peace and unity, but external influences are pushing towards division and conflict. He further stated that while there is agreement on holding a referendum, it remains unclear whether it will take place before the national election or on the same day as it. He emphasized that the government and the Consensus Commission should listen to both sides before announcing the referendum schedule.

AB Party Joint General Secretary Sani Abdul Haque said that full consensus among all political parties does not exist on every aspect of the July Charter. Therefore, dissenting opinions (note of dissent) will be resolved through the referendum. Once passed, the referendum will ensure the complete implementation of the July Charter based on public opinion.

The meeting was held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka under the chairmanship of National Consensus Commission Vice-Chair Professor Ali Riaz and the facilitation of Chief Advisor Monir Haider. AB Party’s Vice-Chairmen, Lt. Colonel (Retd.) Didarul Alam and Lt. Colonel (Retd.) Helal Uddin, were also present.
