BNP Acting Secretary General and the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said police arrested two retired military officers over an alleged plot to carry out sabotage. He also called for increased surveillance and stronger security at Durga Puja venues to prevent any untoward incidents during the upcoming festival.

Rizvi made the remarks as the chief guest at a memorial meeting held at the National Press Club on Monday (October 12), marking the 10th death anniversary of Brigadier General (Retd.) A. S. M. Hannan Shah, a member of the BNP National Standing Committee. The Hannan Shah Smriti Sangsad organised the event.

Rizvi said Durga Puja was approaching and that defeated forces and their supporters might attempt to disrupt the festival to damage the government’s image. He urged party leaders and activists to remain vigilant in view of the potential risks.

The BNP leader said police had arrested two retired military officers on Sunday. He stressed that party leaders and activists should take the matter seriously.

Regarding security arrangements for the upcoming Durga Puja, Rizvi said party leaders should consult members of Puja celebration committees and members of the Hindu community to arrange guards and regular monitoring at every Puja venue. He urged BNP leaders and activists to participate voluntarily in these efforts.

He further said everyone must act responsibly to maintain a peaceful atmosphere at Puja venues. The BNP leader emphasised the importance of advance precautions and mutual cooperation to prevent any untoward incidents.

However, Rizvi did not disclose the identities of the two retired military officers, details of the allegations against them or any statement from police regarding their arrests.
