What Rajju Said About His Last Communication With Tajmin

Rajju, the boyfriend of Jannatul Tajmin, a 15-year-old seventh-grade student who was allegedly raped and murdered in Cumilla, has shared his account of their last communication and relationship. He claimed that Tajmin told him about several problems while returning home. They later spoke over a video call, but their communication was eventually cut off. He said he subsequently learned of her death from a friend.

Rajju made these statements to various media outlets before being detained in the Kalatali area of Cox’s Bazar at around 10:00 pm on Sunday (October 11). He also claimed that he had been in a relationship with Tajmin for approximately six months.

According to Rajju, after setting out for home, Tajmin told him that she had found the main gate locked upon arrival. Her father’s mobile phone was also switched off. Rajju said he advised her to wait outside the door or use someone else’s phone to contact her family members.

Rajju further claimed that Tajmin later told him she would spend the night at a female friend’s house and return home the following morning. He said he subsequently saw her in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw during a video call. At that point, he scolded her and told her to get out of the vehicle and wait outside her home, according to his account.

Rajju claimed that Tajmin then ended the video call and turned off her live location. She later sent him a message saying she was going to an uncle’s house and would return home from there the following day.

Rajju said he spoke with Tajmin again over a video call at around 6:00 am the next morning. He claimed that she was still in an auto-rickshaw. According to him, the driver asked whom she was speaking to. When Tajmin replied that she was talking to a friend, she ended the call. Rajju said he was unable to contact her again after that.

Explaining how he learned of Tajmin’s death, Rajju said a friend informed him the following morning. He claimed that he had intended to marry Tajmin and demanded justice for her killing.

According to Rajju, Tajmin arrived at the Cox’s Bazar bus terminal on the morning of October 6, where he received her. They subsequently stayed for one day in a room at the Meghla Resort in the Kalatali area. He claimed that Tajmin’s family members had been calling her repeatedly during that time. Considering the need for her to maintain contact with her family, he said he had advised her to return home.

Additional Superintendent of Police in Cox’s Bazar, Md. Ahidur Rahman, said Rajju had acknowledged being in a romantic relationship with Tajmin. He was detained for questioning. Police investigating the case from Cumilla are expected to take custody of him upon arrival. Otherwise, he will be produced before a court, the official said.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Suman Mia, 35, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw driver, over allegations that he raped and murdered Tajmin in Sadar Dakshin, Cumilla. Her body was recovered from a paddy field in Lalmhai Upazila on October 8.

According to police, Suman initially confessed during questioning that he had committed the crime alone. However, the final findings of the investigation into the full circumstances of the killing and the roles of any other individuals have not yet been disclosed.
