Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police have arrested two more individuals in connection with the robbery of Shimeon Tripura in Shyamoli, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to three. The arrested individuals are Al Amin, Aslam, and Kabir, who was previously apprehended. The motorcycle used in the robbery and a cleaver were seized from them.
Mohammad Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner (South) of DB, confirmed this information to the media on Thursday (July 17). He stated, "Two more individuals have been arrested in connection with the robbery of a young man at knifepoint in Shyamoli. This brings the total number of arrests to three."
The incident, which occurred around 6 AM on Friday (July 11) near the Kazi Office on Shyamoli Road No. 2, gained widespread attention after a video of the robbery went viral on social media. The video shows three robbers on a motorcycle intercepting a man walking with an umbrella. One of the robbers was shirtless, while the other two wore helmets. They brandished a cleaver and forcibly took the victim's money, phone, wallet, and even his clothes and shoes.
The victim, Shimeon Tripura, stated that he works at a private firm in Dhamrai and resides in Shyamoli. On the morning of the incident, he was leaving his home to go to Savar when he was robbed near Mary Gold International School in Shyamoli. His mobile phone, wallet, credit cards, and all his belongings were stolen.
Following his case filing, DB police used technology to identify and arrest the suspects. The motorcycle and cleaver used in the robbery were also seized.
