PNN News Desk | Bagerhat:
In southern Bangladesh, transport owners and workers’ associations in seven districts—Bagerhat, Khulna, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, and Barishal—have suspended their indefinite transport strike for 10 days starting Monday, 6 October, following the resolution of three sets of demands.
The decision was announced by the leaders of the transport owners’ associations after a meeting with the Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner on Sunday afternoon. The primary demands of the strike included the closure of illegal counters operating without BRTC approval, restrictions on transport running on highways without route permits, and stopping the movement of Nasim and Karim transport services.
Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamrul Hasan assured the association leaders during discussions that the three demands would be addressed within the next 10 days. Consequently, the owners and workers decided to suspend the indefinite strike temporarily.
Shahjahan Mina, Vice President of the Bagerhat Inter-District Bus, Minibus, Coach, and Microbus Owners’ Association, stated, “If our demands are not met within the stipulated time, we will announce a new date for the strike through a press conference.”
