Man Killed in Violent Clash at Land Dispute Arbitration Meeting in Sundarganj, Gaibandha

A mediation meeting over a land dispute in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha turned violent, leaving one man dead.

The incident occurred on Sunday (July 5) afternoon in Mirganj Chachia village of Tarapur Union. The deceased was identified as Abdus Razzak.

Local sources say a long-standing dispute existed between cousins Amzad Hossain and Golzar Hossain. A mediation meeting was arranged at the courtyard of local resident Saju Bepari’s house with the presence of Union Parishad Chairman Aminul Islam.

During the meeting, heated arguments escalated into violence. When Abdus Razzak tried to calm the situation, he was allegedly attacked and brutally beaten.

He was taken to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Police arrested five individuals including Golzar Hossain, Limon Mia, Rimon Mia, Ratna Akter, and Monjuara Begum. A murder case was later filed by the victim’s brother.

Police confirmed the arrests and said investigation is ongoing.
