A court in Khagrachhari has sentenced Md. Shahin to death and also imposed a fine in a case involving the rape of a 7-year-old madrasa student in Ramgarh.
The verdict was delivered on Monday (July 6) by Judge Shayla Sharmin of the Children Violence Suppression Tribunal of Khagrachhari in a crowded courtroom. The convicted accused Shahin was present in the dock during the announcement of the verdict.
According to case details and court sources, on July 25, 2025, the victim, a second-grade madrasa student, was raped by Shahin in the Ramgarh area after being lured with food. Following the incident, the victim’s family filed a case at Ramgarh Police Station. Police completed the investigation and submitted a charge sheet to the court.
After hearing witness testimonies and legal arguments, the court delivered the final judgment.
State lawyer Advocate Srijani Tripura expressed satisfaction over completing the trial within one year, calling it a landmark verdict for justice. However, defense lawyer Advocate Bedarul Islam said they were dissatisfied and would appeal to the High Court.
After the verdict, security was tightened at the court premises, and the convicted Shahin was sent to Khagrachhari District Jail under strict security.
