At that moment, Dhaka Capitals’ assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zakir suddenly fell ill and collapsed on the field. A commotion quickly ensued around him. He was immediately given CPR and rushed to the nearby Al Haramain Hospital in Sylhet. Despite the doctors’ efforts, he passed away at 1:00 PM.
Hospital authorities confirmed Mahbub Ali Zakir’s death to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). BCB’s Chief Medical Officer Debasish Chowdhury stated that a heart attack is suspected as the primary cause of death. The Dhaka Capitals franchise also confirmed this information.
Following the incident, a somber atmosphere descended on the stadium. News of Mahbub Ali Zakir’s death spread during the match, deeply affecting players, officials, and spectators. Even the Dhaka Capitals players, who won the toss and took the field against Rajshahi, showed clear signs of grief and shock.
