This year, the Bangladesh Armed Forces and the United States military are implementing three joint military exercises and a new Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) program. The initiative aims to strengthen bilateral relations and achieve common security objectives, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Dhaka.
The embassy noted in its release that these exercises will not only enhance the military capabilities of both Bangladesh and the US but also bolster regional security and stability.
For the fourth time, the Tiger Lightning exercise will be conducted, involving the Bangladesh Army and the US Army Pacific. This joint exercise will focus on counter-terrorism operations, peacekeeping, jungle warfare, improvised explosive device (IED) prevention, and rapid medical evacuation skills. The realistic drills will improve mutual understanding and rapid response capability between the two countries’ forces.
Since 2009, the ongoing Tiger Shark exercise, part of the Flash Bengal series, is again taking place in Bangladesh. It will feature the Bangladesh Special Warfare Diving and Salvage Unit and Para Commando Brigade working alongside US Special Forces. Key aspects of this exercise include patrol boat operations, use of short-range weapons, and operation of US military equipment.
The US Pacific Angel exercise will be held for the fourth time in Bangladesh. This exercise enhances rapid response capabilities during humanitarian disasters. It will particularly focus on disaster relief equipment transport using the C-130 transport aircraft, search and rescue operations, and aeromedical training.
In a new chapter of military cooperation, a special regiment has been formed to operate the RQ-21 Blackjack Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) involving the Bangladesh Army and Navy. This drone system will be used for maritime surveillance, border security, and peacekeeping missions.
The US Embassy emphasized that these activities are not only strategic but will also strengthen the foundation of trust and cooperation between the two nations.
