India’s popular comedian and actor Kapil Sharma has once again fallen victim to a shooting at his restaurant in Canada. In the past four months, this marks the third armed attack on Kapil’s restaurant, Caps Cafe. The latest incident occurred on Wednesday night (October 15) in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
According to local police, at least three rounds of gunfire were fired outside the restaurant during the night. Fortunately, no one was injured. A video circulating on social media shows a masked individual standing outside the café firing shots continuously.
The infamous Indian criminal gang, Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Two individuals, Goldy Dhillon and Kulbir Sidhu, posted on social media accepting responsibility. Their post read: “We do not target ordinary people. But those who stand in our way or fail to keep their word should beware. Even if religiously offensive remarks are made, no one will be spared—the bullet’s direction will be unpredictable.”
Earlier in August, the same restaurant was hit with 25 bullets in one attack. In September, Kapil Sharma received multiple threat calls, where unknown individuals demanded one crore rupees as extortion and warned of “dire consequences” if the amount was not paid. Following this, Dilip Chowdhury from Kolkata was arrested, reportedly an associate of the Bishnoi Gang.
Kapil Sharma is known to be a close friend of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The Bishnoi Gang has long been active against Salman, targeting him since the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case. Analysts believe Kapil’s close ties with Salman may have made him a target as well.
The Canadian government recently designated the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist organization, citing that the gang instills fear within the Indian expatriate community and business sector. Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, Garry Anandasingh, stated: “The Bishnoi Gang is leveraging threats, extortion, and violence to expand their influence. Strict measures will be taken against them.”
Following the shootings, Canadian authorities have increased security at Kapil’s cafe, deploying special patrols, additional CCTV cameras, and guards. Kapil Sharma has not made any formal comment, but sources close to him reveal that he is mentally shaken by the incidents.
Currently, Kapil’s family and management team are maintaining regular contact with Canadian law enforcement to prevent future attacks. Those close to him say that the comedian, whose profession is to make people laugh, is now concerned about his own safety.
