PNN News Desk: With the upcoming national parliamentary elections, political unrest and intense disagreements over candidates have emerged in all six constituencies of Brahmanbaria, sparking widespread discussion. Five of these constituencies have witnessed public disputes over the candidates announced or likely to be nominated by the BNP. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami has already announced its candidates and secured its position on the ground.

Candidates from NCP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlis, CPB, and Ganoshonghoti Andolon are actively campaigning in various constituencies. However, the political activities of the Awami League and Jatiya Party remain largely inactive.

Brahmanbaria–1: BNP faces discontent in Nasirnagar
In Nasirnagar, BNP hopes to win for the first time. The party nominated Upazila BNP President Abdul Hannan, but other candidates have expressed dissatisfaction. Kamruzzaman, vice-president of the district BNP, claimed that locally popular figures were overlooked.
Meanwhile, Jamaat’s candidate A.K.M. Aminul Islam is conducting regular public outreach and reportedly receiving a good response from voters.

Brahmanbaria–2: Rumors of giving seat to allies escalate BNP internal conflict
BNP has yet to announce its candidate for Sarail–Ashuganj. There is talk that the seat may be given to an allied party. Meanwhile, at least seven aspirants, including former MP Rumin Farhana and Sheikh Shamim, are competing fiercely for nomination.
Jamaat has already nominated Mobarak Hossain, while Hefajat-e-Islam’s cleric Junaid Al Habib is also rumored to be an alliance candidate. On Saturday, some supporters protested on the highway in Ashuganj demanding their preferred candidate.

Brahmanbaria–3: BNP unity in Sadar–Bijoynagar; competition rises from Jamaat
This constituency has the least internal conflict within BNP. Central leader Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal seems to have unified the organization. However, Jamaat’s candidate Zunaid Hasan is campaigning actively, which is expected to intensify competition.

Brahmanbaria–4: Tensions over nomination in Kasba–Akhaura
BNP nominated Mushfiqur Rahman for Kasba–Akhaura. However, a faction of the party claims that their long-standing leader Kabir Ahmed was sidelined, causing strong objections. Mushfiqur Rahman stated, “Demands for reconsideration are natural, but the decision will not be changed.”

Brahmanbaria–5: Fierce internal disputes in Nabinagar
BNP nominated Abdul Mannan, but open protests within the party continue. A faction strongly demands candidate Kazi Nazmul Hossain. The conflict between the two sides has slowed BNP’s election preparations.

Brahmanbaria–6: Uncertainty over Saki’s seat creates unrest in BNP
In Bancharampur, Ganoshonghoti Andolon leader Zunaid Saki is the most talked-about figure. BNP has not yet announced a candidate here. Discussions about potentially giving the seat to Saki in an alliance arrangement have caused resentment among local BNP leaders.
At least five aspirants, including M.A. Khalek, have indicated that if the candidate is chosen based on alliance decisions, they will have no choice but to accept it.

Political tensions are evident across Brahmanbaria ahead of the elections. While BNP faces its main rival, internal conflicts, dissatisfaction over nominations, and lack of coordination with allies are putting the party under pressure. In contrast, Jamaat and other Islamic parties are already on the ground, trying to gain an advantageous position. Local political analysts believe that if the nomination crisis is not resolved, BNP could face a significant setback in the electoral field.
