BNP Was Elected Through People’s Votes, Avoid Provocative Statements: Azam Khan in Sakhipur

Liberation War Affairs Minister Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan has said that the BNP government was elected through the direct votes of the people, and everyone has a responsibility to respect that public mandate. He called for avoiding provocative statements despite political differences and moving forward through discussions for the progress of the country.

He made the remarks while addressing party leaders and activists at an exchange meeting organized at the Sakhipur Upazila BNP office in Tangail at around 9:00pm on Monday (July 20).

Azam Khan said the BNP government did not come to power through any undemocratic process; rather, it was formed based on the people’s verdict. He also commented that people would not positively accept misleading or provocative statements regarding the legitimacy of the election and the government.

Regarding the election, he alleged that many candidates failed to achieve expected results despite spending huge amounts of money. On the other hand, he claimed that BNP won 212 seats through people’s votes while following the rules set by the Election Commission.

Addressing political opponents, he said that national problems should be resolved through discussions instead of threats or aggressive statements. According to him, dialogue and mutual understanding—not conflict—are the effective ways to move the country forward.

He further said that various groups are active in creating political instability and attempting to destabilize the government. He urged party leaders and activists to remain united and cautious in facing such situations. At the same time, he claimed that supporters of fascism and extremist groups are trying to damage the country’s democratic environment.

The meeting was attended by Acting President of Upazila BNP Nazim Uddin Master, Vice-President Akbar Hossain, Acting General Secretary Kabir Hasan, and leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations.
